Overview

Barre has been called the most effective group workout on the planet. Even non-dancers can now train like dancers do! Barre classes provide a high-energy, low-impact, full body workout. Barre classes use a combination of high repetitions of small movements and isometric contractions to tone and sculpt targeted areas, especially the glutes, thighs, calves, abs and arms. Set to up-tempo music, this high energy class provides the perfect fat-burning and muscle-sculpting workout without any stress on the joints.

What to expect

A typical class will begin with an initial sequence of big movement designed to get the heart rate up. This warm up sequence is followed by targeted strengthening and stretching series designed to very specifically tone and sculpt the body region by region. Using a combination of high repetitions of small movements and isometric contractions, the design is to work a particular muscle or muscle group to fatigue and then immediately follow with a stretching sequence to elongate the muscle after it has been overloaded. The fast paced continuous flow nature of a class also provides a great cardio aspect to the class as well.

In addition to the ballet barre, you may also use small balls, resistance bands, and light hand weights to create safe, fast-paced and intense workout done with an emphasis on alignment and the movement integrity of Pilates.

Who can do Barre?

Barre classes are designed to be suitable for anyone to take. We literally have ages ranging from 10 to 83 taking barre at our studio. And no, you don't have to be a dancer or have a dance background. That’s what makes it a great class for anyone. While it can be intense and fast-paced, each participant can always take breaks and join back in.

Barre workouts are very popular for pre- and post- natal conditioning. Since Barre is a very effective way to sculpt and tone, it is also a very popular workout for brides to be.

Great for Men too!!! We have a number of men in our barre classes as well because it is a great full body workout and can also help with sports like golf and tennis.

What to bring

The studio provides the mats and all the props. Socks are required. We also recommend you bring water and sweat towel if desired.
